To Kill a Mockingbird Part Deux

Well, another interesting day in English class. The movie for To Kill a Mockingbird continues to be excellent. Although some parts are left out, everything is still accurate (almost down to the word). The ways that people were sitting and conducting themselves were accurate and indicative of their personalities. Mr. Ewell sits comfortably, slouching in the chair. This shows how smug he is. The way that Mr. Glimer sits (leg over the arm chair) shows that he too is smug and confidant about the trial. They expected to have the case in their pockets. The movie effectively shows this without wasting any time. The way that Mayella sits (stiff on the edge of her seat with her back straight and arms stiff at her sides) was a good way to show how anxious and nervous she was. Seeing the court scene in the movie was more emotion-provoking than reading it in the book. Hearing their voices and seeing the expressions on their faces was more intense. When Tom Robinson hears that the jury ruled him guilty, the heartbreak on his face and in his body language was depressing. Later, when Atticus learns of Tom's death, a similar thing happens. After hearing the news, his posture slouches and he seems to age many years. Overall, today's portion of To Kill a Mockingbird was depressing :( But, that's what I think I'm supposed to feel so kudos to the movie!
